10 Enchanting Themes for a Springtime Wedding

Spring, with its natural tapestry of blooming flowers and warmer weather, offers a perfect backdrop for romantic nuptials. As you plan your spring wedding, consider these ten popular themes that promise to turn your special day into an unforgettable celebration.

1. Garden Romance

Imagine saying your vows surrounded by the lush, blooming beauty of a garden. This theme is perfect for couples who dream of an intimate and natural setting. Incorporate floral arrangements with spring blossoms like peonies, daffodils, and tulips to bring the garden indoors.

2. Vintage Elegance

A vintage-themed wedding in spring channels the timeless beauty of bygone eras. Think delicate lace dresses, antique décor, and classic cars. Venues like historic mansions or estates provide the perfect setting, complemented by soft pastels and old-world charm.

3. Rustic Chic

For a blend of country charm and elegance, a rustic chic wedding is the way to go. Venues like barns or vineyards set the scene, enhanced by DIY elements, wooden accents, and wildflower bouquets. It’s relaxed yet stylish, embodying the freshness of spring.

4. Bohemian Bliss

Boho weddings are all about expressing your individuality. Free-spirited and eclectic, this theme combines earthy, natural elements with a hint of glamour. Think macramé backdrops, vibrant floral crowns, and outdoor ceremonies that embrace the springtime landscape.

5. Classic Spring Pastels

Nothing says spring like a palette of soft pastels. This timeless theme utilizes shades of baby blue, mint green, pale pink, and lavender. It’s elegant and understated, with a focus on soft lighting, delicate fabrics, and an abundance of florals.

6. Fairy Tale Fantasy

For those who dream of a storybook wedding, a fairy tale theme is perfect. Think enchanted forests, horse-drawn carriages, and ballroom gowns. Incorporate elements like fairy lights, intricate invitations, and a castle or garden venue to bring the magic of spring to life.

7. Seaside Serenity

A beachfront wedding captures the essence of spring by the sea. With a backdrop of crashing waves and sandy shores, this theme emphasizes natural beauty and casual elegance. Opt for light fabrics, sea-inspired décor, and a sunset ceremony to capture the romance of the ocean.

8. Whimsical Wonderland

This playful and imaginative theme takes inspiration from the whimsy of Alice in Wonderland. It’s a chance to be bold with colorful decorations, quirky details, and unique floral arrangements. A whimsical wedding is fun, memorable, and perfectly suited to the vibrancy of spring.

9. Tropical Paradise

Bring the vibrant colors and lush settings of a tropical paradise to your spring wedding. This theme is perfect for couples who love bold colors and exotic touches. Think bright flowers, palm leaves, and fruit-infused cocktails to create a lively and festive atmosphere.

10. Minimalist Modern

For the modern couple, a minimalist theme offers elegance and simplicity. Focus on clean lines, monochromatic color schemes, and uncluttered spaces. Let the beauty of spring shine through with simple floral arrangements and sleek, contemporary venues.

Celebrating Love and Nature: The Charm of Sweetheart Chairs and Rustic Wood Styling in Barn Weddings

Barn weddings have a unique allure, blending the rustic beauty of nature with the intimate joy of celebrating love. Two distinct trends that enhance this magical atmosphere are the thoughtful placement of sweetheart chairs for the newlyweds and the incorporation of rustic wood styling throughout the decor. Let's explore how these elements, each with their own charm, come together to create an unforgettable wedding experience.

The Sweetheart Chairs: A Throne for Two

At the heart of every wedding is the love story between two individuals, and sweetheart chairs serve as a beautiful symbol of this union. Positioned prominently at the reception, these chairs offer the married couple a special place to sit together, distinct from the rest of the guests. More than just seating, they are a focal point of the celebration, inviting the couple to share intimate moments, exchange glances, and enjoy their first meal as a married duo in comfort and style.

Styling these chairs can be a fun and creative process. They can be adorned with floral arrangements, personalized with the couple's names, or decorated with fabrics that complement the wedding's color scheme. These touches not only highlight the chairs but also underscore the importance of the couple's new journey together.

Rustic Wood Styling: Echoing the Beauty of Nature

Separate from, but complementary to, the concept of sweetheart chairs is the trend of incorporating rustic wood styling into the wedding decor. This approach draws inspiration from the barn's inherent character—its wooden beams, expansive doors, and natural surroundings. By using elements like reclaimed wood tables, wooden signposts, and centerpieces that feature raw wood, couples can create a cohesive look that feels both organic and elegantly crafted.

This styling choice resonates with those who appreciate the beauty and texture of natural materials. It speaks to a desire to celebrate love in a setting that feels grounded, authentic, and connected to the earth. Rustic wood elements can be soft and romantic, with delicate flowers and soft lighting, or more rugged, featuring bold greenery and raw textures.

The Dos and Don'ts of Inviting Guests to Your Wedding Venue

Planning a wedding can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, especially when it comes to creating your guest list. Deciding who to invite and who to leave off can be a difficult task, but with some guidance and tips, you can navigate the process with ease. In this guide, we'll explore the dos and don'ts of creating your wedding venue guest list.

Do prioritise close family and friends.

When creating your wedding guest list, it's important to prioritize your close family and friends. These are the people who have been there for you throughout your life and who you want to share this special day with. Start by making a list of your immediate family members, followed by your closest friends. From there, you can expand your list to include extended family members and other friends. Remember, it's your day, so invite the people who mean the most to you.

Don't feel obligated to invite everyone you know.

It's important to remember that your wedding day is about you and your partner, not about pleasing everyone else. Don't feel obligated to invite distant relatives or acquaintances just because you feel like you should. Keep in mind that every guest you invite adds to the cost of your wedding, so be mindful of your budget and only invite those who truly matter to you. It's better to have a smaller, more intimate wedding with the people you love than a large, impersonal one with people you barely know.

Do consider your budget and venue capacity.

When creating your guest list, it's important to keep your budget and venue capacity in mind. Each additional guest means more money spent on food, drinks, and other wedding expenses. Make sure you have a clear idea of your budget and how many guests your venue can comfortably accommodate before sending out invitations. It's better to have a smaller, more intimate wedding than to overextend yourself financially or have a crowded and uncomfortable venue.

Don't invite someone out of guilt or obligation.

It can be tempting to invite someone to your wedding out of guilt or obligation, but it's important to remember that this is your special day and you should surround yourself with people who truly support and care for you. If you feel obligated to invite someone, take a step back and ask yourself why. Is it because they invited you to their wedding? Are they a distant relative you haven't seen in years? If the answer is yes, it's okay to politely decline or limit their invitation to a reception-only option. Your wedding day should be filled with love and joy, not obligation and guilt.

Do communicate clearly with your guests about RSVPs and any restrictions.

When inviting guests to your wedding venue, it's important to communicate clearly about RSVPs and any restrictions you may have. Make sure to include a deadline for RSVPs and provide multiple ways for guests to respond, such as through a wedding website or by mail. If you have any restrictions, such as a dress code or no children policy, make sure to clearly communicate this to your guests as well. This will help avoid any confusion or misunderstandings on the day of your wedding.

7 Rustic Wedding Venue Styling Ideas for a Country Chic Wedding

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and choosing the right venue and decor can make all the difference. If you're looking for unique wedding venue styling ideas, consider incorporating rustic elements like vintage decor and natural materials. These charming touches will add character and warmth to your special day.

Incorporate Wood and Natural Elements.

For a truly rustic and natural feel, incorporate wood and other natural elements into your wedding venue styling. Use wooden tables and chairs, and decorate with wooden signs, tree stumps, and branches. Add touches of greenery and flowers to bring the outdoors inside. You can even use natural materials like burlap and twine for your table settings and favors. These elements will create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your guests to enjoy.

Use Vintage Decor and Antiques.

Vintage decor and antiques can add a unique and charming touch to your rustic wedding venue. Look for old suitcases, vintage frames, and antique lanterns to use as decorations. You can also incorporate vintage furniture pieces like a vintage sofa or chairs for a cozy lounge area. Don't be afraid to mix and match different vintage pieces to create a one-of-a-kind look.

Add Rustic Lighting.

Lighting is an important aspect of any wedding venue styling, and for a rustic wedding, you can add a touch of warmth and charm with rustic lighting. Consider using string lights, lanterns, or even mason jar lights to create a cozy and romantic atmosphere. You can also incorporate candles in vintage candle holders or lanterns for a soft and intimate glow. Don't forget to consider the natural lighting of your venue and how it can be enhanced with your chosen lighting elements.

Use Burlap and Lace.

Burlap and lace are a classic combination for rustic wedding venue styling. Use burlap table runners or chair sashes for a touch of texture and natural charm. Lace can be incorporated in various ways, such as using lace doilies as placemats or incorporating lace accents in your floral arrangements. You can also use lace ribbon to tie around your wedding favors or to add a delicate touch to your wedding invitations. The combination of burlap and lace adds a touch of vintage elegance to your country chic wedding.

Create a Cozy Lounge Area.

A cozy lounge area is a great addition to any rustic wedding venue. Use vintage furniture, such as a couch or armchairs, and add soft blankets and pillows for a comfortable and inviting space. You can also incorporate natural elements, such as wooden crates or tree stumps, as side tables. Hang string lights or lanterns above the lounge area to create a warm and intimate atmosphere. Your guests will love having a cozy spot to relax and chat during your wedding reception.

Invitation Station

You’ve found the venue, picked out a dress and chosen the rings - now it’s time to focus on your guests!

The stationery you choose can help bring the whole wedding together and is the first step to making your guests really feel as though they are part of your big day.

But how do you decide what to go for? What should you personalise? Which colours and fonts should you go for?

The Invite Shack - one of Cooling Castle Barn’s recommended suppliers - design and provide a wide range of wedding stationery, from save the dates, invites, table plans, signs and more.

And to make things easier for some couples, owner Liz Willis has now created a platform which allows couples to customise some of her most popular designs.

She said: “As the company grew, I realised it was important to find a way where couples could use some of my most popular designs, but make them their own.

“They can follow the linktr.ee links and change the font and colours and other parts to help keep costs down but still personalise them to their own tastes.”

Liz, a graphic designer for around 15 years, has been a recommended supplier at Cooling Castle Barn for four years.

For those opting for the venue, she has even designed a sketch to make invitations and other stationery stand out.

She added: “I love the venue, and I think the sketch of Cooling Castle really finishes off the stationery, perfectly.

“Wedding Stationery is such an important part of a couple’s big day. It’s often the first time they are revealing it to their friends and family and it’s the first glimpse their guests get of what it might look and feel like, so the invites can really set the tone.

”A lot of couples say that it feels real to them after they have the invites - I love being part of that initial excitement!”

Liz’s most popular designs include a concertina, tri-fold invitation. Couples can opt for bespoke designs or follow the links on her website and customise dozens of designs and view them on screen before ordering, cutting down on waiting time and costs. More designs are being added to the site every day.

The company, based in Maidstone, also provides all other matching stationery such as save the dates, table plans, place cards, table numbers, thank-you cards, and more, with customer visits available for those who want to discuss their requirements in person.

Open Day Delight!

Love was definitely in the air this weekend as hundreds of soon-to-be-married couples took up the opportunity to take a closer look around Cooling Castle Barn during its first Open Day since the pandemic.

More than a thousand people were onsite to tuck into freshly-cooked pizza from the outside pizza oven, fantastic small tasting plates and a drink or two, as they were shown what the wedding venue has to offer.

More than 20 of the company’s recommended suppliers were on hand to talk to potential couples about their services, while the brilliant Barn staff showed them around.

For owner Rebecca Collins it was a chance to get back to some normality after the difficulties that COVID had presented.

She said: “The Open Day used to be one of the highlights of the year, so it was great to see so many people onsite enjoying our hospitality once again.

“It was a pleasure seeing all our wonderful suppliers together, showing off what they do best - putting on fantastic and unforgettable weddings.”

The Sound of Love!

From Elvis and Elton John to Pachelbel and…..Pokemon….harpist Fiona Hosford has had all sorts of song requests for weddings she has played at over the years.

The harp’s beautiful sounds can set the right romantic tone for your wedding in a way few other instruments can.

At Cooling Castle Barn, only the most tried-and-trusted suppliers make our ‘recommended list’ - and Fiona is one of a small group of talented musicians to make the grade.

However, despite playing the harp for 42 years and at weddings at Cooling Castle Barn for around 17 years, some requests can still surprise her - although she’s always happy to try to oblige.

She said: “Canon in D is the most requested tune to walk down the aisle to. I love it when clients have specific pieces they'd like me to play - even if I have to learn them.

“The most popular pieces over the years have been Your Song - Elton John; Canon in D - Pachelbel; 1,000 Years - Christina Perri; Make You Feel My Love - Dylan/Adele; Can't Help Falling in Love With You - Elvis; Here Comes the Sun - George Harrison; Clair de Lune - Claude Debussy; Le Onde - Ludivico Einaudi.

“One young couple were having a Pokemon Wedding and asked me if I knew any Pokemon - so with a few weeks’ notice I learnt the song and some other songs, like The Legend of Zelda, Tetris and other random tunes! It was a challenge but everyone loved it!”

Fiona can choose pieces to fit the mood of your wedding, as well as requests within reason. She can play during the drinks reception and wedding breakfast, and quietly in the background as guests arrive for the ceremony, as well as the entrance and wedding processional of the bride and during the signing of the register.

Our Favourite Shot

In a previous article, we spoke to our two most trusted photographers Nicky and Dan - who have been on our recommended supplier lists for almost 25 years between them. After learning about their craft and being treated to some of their best photographs they have managed to whittle it down to just one.

Here we find out about their favourite shot taken at Cooling Castle Barn and what sets it apart from others.

Dan Potter from Dan Potter Photography (photo above) has been a recommended supplier at Cooling Castle Barn for more than eight years.

He said: “I love this one. It’s a confetti shot, with the bride throwing her arm in the air. It might not be the best confetti shot there ever was, but because she is in the moment, loving the day, the emotion comes through and makes it a great photo in my eyes.

Nicky Tulip at Nicky’s Photography has been a recommended supplier at Cooling Castle Barn for 15 years.

She picked this shot above as her favourite.

She said: “It was taken quite recently. The couple’s wedding was booked some time ago, but because of Covid it got moved. They had already moved it once and their last wedding date was a day before it was announced that they couldn’t have the wedding. I remember being on the phone with them and how upsetting it was.

“It was an amazing thing to eventually complete that journey with them. They popped a bottle of Champagne, they shook it up and it fizzed up and I felt really close to them. From booking, it was three or four years of being on that journey. You get to know them and they even mentioned me in their speeches, which was lovely.

“As a photographer, you build up a relationship, you have to make sure you understand your couple, ensure they’re happy and make sure that you’ve understood what they want out of it.

“So with this photo it felt like mission accomplished.”

Picture Perfect!

If there’s one thing most married couples agree on, it’s that the wedding day itself whizzes by in a blur.

Attending to your guests; worrying about dresses or speeches; accepting a drink or three from long-lost relatives at the bar; there’s rarely a moment to pause and take it all in.

That’s why getting the right wedding photographer is so important. They are there to capture all those special moments that you can then cherish for the rest of your life.

At Cooling Castle Barn, we have two trusted photographers on our recommended suppliers’ list. Here, we find out what makes them tick as they share some of their favourite snaps taken at our Cooling weddings from over the years.

Dan Potter from Dan Potter Photography (gallery above) has been a recommended supplier at Cooling Castle Barn for more than eight years.

On wedding photography

“I love my job – it’s great being around happy occasions. It’s the best day of a couple’s lives so far, so it’s a great atmosphere and you know everyone is going to be having a good time.

“You know couples are going to keep these photographs forever – it’s a lasting memory - so it’s special to be part of it.

“I’ve had some great word of mouth jobs – I did the photography for three sisters at different places over a number of years, it’s lovely to be able to do a job for the whole family.”

On what makes a good shot..

“A good wedding shot needs great light, great composition, but most importantly, it needs a little bit of emotion. You can have great light and great composition and a good photo, but if you have the emotion you have a story in that photo. You need to get to know your couple and I find the photos with with emotion are always the keepers.”

On Cooling Castle Barn…

“I like the different seasons at the Barn and there are different spots within the grounds and outside that are great at different times of year. There’s great blossom in the spring; you have the hay bales in the surrounding fields in the late summer; colourful trees in the autumn; and sometimes snow in the winter. There are so many different spots that you can use.

“Cooling Castle Barn is a well-oiled machine. The staff are great. I feel at home there. I’ve been recommended for quite a while and know a lot of the staff to speak to which makes your day easier. Communication is great, so I’m always kept informed if anything is going behind schedule - which it very rarely is!”

Nicky Tulip at Nicky’s Photography has been a recommended supplier at Cooling Castle Barn for 15 years.

On wedding photography…

"It’s hard work, but an amazing job. The pressure is immense, it’s the most important day of someone’s life. But I love it when I see a moment and know that I’ve got it. You look through the lens and know that it’s really special, but the couple won’t see it until later.

“Building a relationship up with a couple and being part of their journey is such a lovely thing.”

On what makes a good shot…

“I offer a pre-shoot for Cooling couples as I want to get to know them before the day.  They are generally more relaxed if they do this. They can then get to know me as well - but I like to know their story.

“There are some couples who are adventurous and you get to see that in the pre-shoot, they may do some running or climbing trees and things like that. Others are more nervous, so we have to build up to the photos, I might ask them to go for a walk together and get the long-lens on.”

On Cooling Castle Barn…

“Cooling is a second home to me. I know the space, I know the light and where and when I can use it. It runs so well and I’m trusted as a supplier there, they can let me get on with what I need to do.

“It makes it easier to work with everyone when they know you. That makes a good venue on the whole - where everyone comes together for this special occasion and it all runs like clock work.”

Food, Glorious Food.

“A recipe has no soul - you, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe,” American chef Thomas Keller once said.

And at Cooling Castle Barn, our experienced chefs will bring the menu truly alive for your wedding day feast.

We’re always delighted to get positive feedback about our amazing food, and here we have brought in the experts at Fleur Challis Photography, to help us showcase some of our spectacular dishes.

Just don’t start looking through the gallery on an empty stomach!

Let Them Eat Cake!

We love a good cake here at Cooling Castle Barn. But while we eat it with gusto, we leave the baking and creative side to the experts.

With decades in the wedding industry, we know what makes the perfect wedding. And a show-stopping cake is definitely up there! It’s why only a select few businesses make it onto our recommended suppliers’ list.

Here we asked three cake suppliers from our fab list to pick out their favourite creation.

Sue Pridie, from All Shapes & Slices Cake Co picked this buttercream iced cake as her favourite. It had a red velvet tier, a vanilla sponge tier and two dummy tiers to reduce servings. It served 50 slices, but would have served 130 slices had all tiers been edible.

She said: “I love this cake because four-tier wedding cakes are my favourite size for making a real impact at a venue. I created this cake in May 2021 when weddings were still under government restrictions, but my couple Alannah and Matt didn’t want to reduce the cake size that they had their hearts set on.

“It was the first multi-tiered cake that I had made in such a long time and the flowers that Floral Explosion provided were absolutely perfect for creating the delicate floral cascade on this design.”

Chelsea Prior from Chelsea Buns Cake Design picked this stunning cake made up of rich chocolate, white chocolate and passion fruit and lemon tiers.

She said: “As a specialist in handcrafted sugar flowers, this cake is one of my all-time favourites. The beautiful, botanically correct sugar flowers are the focal point of this design and had people guessing if they were in fact real! The flowers alone were about two days’ work, as every individual petal is rolled, cut and shaped by hand.

“I can recreate any flowers in sugar, meaning that my couples can have everlasting flowers as a memento from their wedding day. Creating beautiful wedding cakes with amazing sugar flowers is my favourite thing to do.”

Jeyda Ali from Jey’s Heavenly Events picked out this display which includes a four-tier main cake, three single tiers, 40 brownies, 48 cupcakes, 40 mini cakes and 40 personalised cookies. It took her two days to bake and design and an hour and a half to set-up!

She said: “This is my favourite set-up as its unique to Jey's Heavenly Events and brings the ‘wow factor’ into a couple’s big day. I love extravagant displays and this is definitely one! They can be altered to fit any theme!”

Evening feasts at Cooling Castle Barn - a mouth-watering finale to the perfect wedding!

Has the pandemic changed what we look for in a wedding?

With families and friends unable to meet in large groups for months – or even, years – we are seeing more couples looking for a more relaxed wedding vibe.

The special day is still about two people showing their commitment to one another, but an important factor has also become about getting everyone together: the chance to kick-back, catch-up and mingle all day with loved ones.

That’s why we have spent time designing an amazing outside space for couples and guests to enjoy throughout the day - and evening.

After the wedding and sumptuous wedding feast, we have paid special attention to our outdoor grill area for the evening time.  We offer lots of different options for your evening menu, the majority completely included in the price. Think Hog roast, a BBQ, Mexican, Indian, buffet, or piping hot pizza straight out of the outdoor oven – whatever you choose, you can be sure that your evening guests will be as well fed as the guests that have been with you all day. Even better, if the weather is good, you can enjoy the food, drink, company and ambience on the stunning patio and garden area, too!

And when everyone has caught up and eaten well, the memories will live long into the future.

Let's Talk About.....Flower Power!

When it comes to planning the perfect wedding, having the right flower designs are up there with the bride’s dress in terms of importance.

Not only do they set the scene, providing a ‘wow’ factor for guests as one of the first things they see, they’re also a constant backdrop for photos taken as the celebrations continue throughout the day.

But what are the latest trends? What colours are couples moving towards, right now? What makes the perfect venue when it comes to flower dressing?

Becky Franklin has seen many changes in the industry since setting up Floral Explosion – one of Cooling Castle Barn’s recommended suppliers - more than 15 years ago.

She said: “When we first started you had a florist that would do the flowers and a venue dresser that would do the dressing - but it was quite disjointed. Over time, florists became venue dressers as well, so we could design a wedding so everything flowed and colour schemes matched properly.”

With the ramifications of Brexit and Covid still in full flow, the industry is undergoing major changes once again.

Becky continued: “We are seeing a bit of a turning point in the florist world as we have been hit hard by severe price increases.

“We get our flowers from South America and Holland, but Covid and Brexit has really pushed the prices up. Because of Brexit there are now tariffs on importing flowers. Also, in some countries because they didn’t know what was happening with Covid, they didn’t plant anything. So, there was not a lot of flowers to cut, which is forcing the prices up at auctions.

“We are seeing major changes. A bride’s budget isn’t expanding in the same way flower prices are.

“One of the solutions we have come up with is a design – we call it our Enchanted Garden range - which are really good quality silk flowers with real foliage. This gives the ‘wow’ factor couples are after. Brides want their guests to walk in and be wowed. When you use these flowers with real foliage, you can’t tell the difference and it looks amazing.

“We think we will see a lot more brides going down this route. It has to done tastefully though, as you can get some terrible faux flowers. Our silk flowers look like velvet, you can’t tell they’re not real.”

Danny Watchorn of Danny Watchorn Designer Florist – another of Cooling Castle Barn’s recommended suppliers, is in total agreement.

He said: “Brexit has been a major concern for our industry, we have found the cost of some flower prices being tripled, before they even reach Covent Garden flower market.

“To be able to offer the best possible price for our couples, who wish to have large, elegant arrangements, we have designed our new Hedgerow Collection, for hire.  We will be using fresh choice foliage and high-quality artificial flowers.  This gives the opportunity to have the ‘wow factor’, without a big price tag.”

For couples not going down these routes, there are certain flowers and colours that always seem to be more on trend than others.

Becky continued: “There’s been a trend of blush and ivory for a couple of years and it’s not going away. Brides love peonies and hydrangeas and big open headed roses. A voluptuous look.”

Danny added: “We have found there is more emphasis on very loose, flowing, wild hedgerow design, bridal bouquets.

“We are also finding that we are using more woodland type designs, such as large log slices, candles in large jam jars, ivy trails, pampas grasses and wild country garden flowers.

“Lighting, candles and fairy lights are also hugely popular and we have lots of creative ideas for hire.”

But what about the venue? What do florists need to put their creative juices to best use? What sets Cooling Castle Barn apart from other venues?

Becky added: “Our job is to put the bride and groom’s stamp on the wedding. Our role is to transform a blank canvas into a wedding and bringing a bride and groom’s vision to life.

“The bridal bouquet is critical. They are in all of the photos. It has to go with the dress and the colour schemes so it all flows and the theme goes throughout.

“A blank canvas that hasn’t too much clutter makes a good venue. It’s really important, along with good lighting.

“Cooling is a darker venue, but really well lit. It’s big and has a real ‘wow’ factor with lots of space to fill. Its sister venue, The Vines of Rochester, is the polar opposite. The florist’s job is not to fight with the interior of the venue - The Vines is very colourful, so you want to complement it. But then the tee-pee is a lovely blank space to fill. You can use fairy lights and other lighting too.”

For Danny, the relationship with the staff at the venue is equally important.

He said: “We have had the pleasure of being a supplier to Cooling for the last 17 years, during this time we have built an excellent relationship with the owners, management and staff.

“As a recommended supplier of floristry, lighting and room dressing, we have also worked closely with the general manger making bespoke designs for their barns at Christmas. We also provided designs for the Vines.

“We just love working at these venues as they are as passionate as we are, ensuring couples have the day of their dreams.  We find the management and staff extremely helpful kind and considerate in helping us to create and supply new designs for our couples and they go the extra mile, supporting us in providing an outstanding service.”

And last but not least, wedding floristry often conjures up romantic connotations. It’s seen as a dream job by many – something Danny and Becky feel lucky to be able to do.

Danny said: “Every bride dreams of the perfect day for her wedding and we love to ensure we work with them closely, so that on the day their ideas and thoughts come alive.  I always, together with my team, go above and beyond to ensure every detail is covered.”

Becky added: “It’s magical. I can’t stress enough our job is to create a vision that they may have had since they were a little girl.

“The father-in-law of a wedding we covered recently was in the business and it meant everything to him to get this right. It brought a tear to his eye when he saw the arrangements.

“We have to bring that vision to life. When you see their reaction on the day it’s overwhelming. Their vision has come to life, they’ve never seen it altogether before, you feel really moved when you’ve got it so right.”

Let’s Talk About…..The Last Song of the Night!

You’ve eaten, drunk and – of course – celebrated your marriage in front of your nearest and dearest.

The day’s almost over - but you need a big song to get everyone up on the dance floor and end the night with a BANG!

What do you go for?

Megan and Scarlett Welling-Rodd had a November winter wedding at Cooling Castle Barn timed to make the most of our amazing Christmas decorations. They chose Wonderwall by Oasis for the final song that got everyone singing and swaying - as their guests got covered in the white stuff courtesy of our snow machine!

Jody and Keith Poynton-Brewis, another of our couples to opt for a winter wedding, managed to squeeze in two songs while the snow-flowed, including The Fairytale of New York.

Meanwhile, with more than 20 years behind the decks at Cooling Castle Barn and sister venue The Vines, our resident DJs James Johnson and Robin Chappell have seen it all.

James said: “The last song tends to be quite different from couple-to-couple. Some want everyone really going for it on the dance floor, while other’s want slow and intimate!

“Tracks that come to mind include Sweet Caroline, The Dirty Dancing song, The Time of My Life, Champagne Supernova and Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis, and New York, New York, by Frank Sinatra.

Robin added: “The last song of the night normally sends everyone home with a simile on their face. We’ve had some couples who pick the same song for their first dance and last song of the night – it’s a nice way to round it off.

“New York, New York, is pretty popular, but we’ve also had All Night Long by Lionel Richie and Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get it On, which I think is a great way to send everyone home!”

Cooling Castle Barn featured in Elle magazine's top wedding venues!

How cool is this? We don’t often blow our own trumpet, but Cooling Castle Barn was featured in an Elle Magazine article - which put us in the Top 32 wedding venues in the UK!

They said: “Choosing a wedding venue for your big day can be one of the most stressful yet crucial decisions of your ‘wedmin’.

“From barn conversions, Grade II-listed properties, farmhouses and hotels, the UK has thousands of wedding venues to pick from, making finalising your list of possible destinations for your nuptials all the more challenging.

“Additionally, some wedding venues come with wedding planners, dry hire fees, accommodation, weekend packages, linen hire (yes, that’s a thing) and menu tasting, which makes choosing your wedding flowers, wedding photographer and wedding dress a piece of cake in the grand scheme of things.

“That’s why we’ve compiled an in-depth list of the most stylish wedding venues in the UK, no matter the religion, culture, style or party size you wish to cater for.”

Another winter wedding with the 'wow' factor!

As these stunning photos show – winter weddings at Cooling Castle Barn have a real ‘wow’ factor!

Megan and Scarlett Welling-Rodd had a November wedding in 2018, timing it to make the most of our amazing Christmas decorations which can be used as a backdrop for any wedding booked around those dates.

Megan said: “We both love Christmas, it’s our favourite time of year - we’d seen photos of the Christmas decorations the year before and I was sold on the venue before we even viewed it, the decorations looked so beautiful!

“Our bridesmaids had tears in their eyes when they saw how the amazing the Barn looked for the first time and my dad was really emotional after he saw it, as well. It has a real ‘wow’ factor. It also means you don’t have to worry about decorating it more, as it’s all done for you!”

While the weather can sometimes put off couples from opting for a winter wedding, Megan couldn’t disagree more.

She said: “It was November and was cold outside, but you were having such a good time, you don’t care. The ‘buzz’ warms you up. It didn’t rain and the photos have a lovely, crisp feel to them.

“We think it’s a perfect time of year to have a wedding!”

Looking back on their special day, the couple have some lovely memories and things to say.

Megan continued: “We had singing waiters and they did the lifts for us for the Time of our Lives while everyone danced and watched. We also had sparklers in the evening.

“The Moat House is the perfect place to get ready in the morning. It’s beautiful. For a winter wedding the whole barn interconnects and you don’t even have to go outside if you don’t want to.

“The staff are incredible from start to finish – all our guests couldn’t speak highly enough about them.”

All winter weddings at the Barn have use of a snow machine – guaranteeing a truly memorable end to the celebrations.

Megan added: “We finished on Wonderwall by Oasis and it was a wicked end, we didn’t tell anyone there was going to be a snow machine – it was like a blizzard!

“It was a really magical end to the whole day, with everyone singing and dancing and snow covering everyone!”
